Mission Statement

The members of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicate themselves to historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavors.

About This Cause

For more than a century, the members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution have dedicated themselves to historical preservation, promotion of education, and encouragement of patriotic endeavor. These goals are as relevant in today's society as they were when the organization was founded in 1890. Most of DAR's volunteer work is accomplished by the grassroots efforts of chapters on the local level which focus on the mission areas of DAR by encouraging members to become involved in these initiatives in their local communities. National Pike Chapter is involved in several local community initiatives. Currently our chapter ongoing projects include collection of pajamas twice a year for the Domestic Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania for use in a shelter for abused women. We collect cash and toiletries for the Veterans Hospital in Pittsburgh at Christmas. We are beginning a project to recognize 21 Revolutionary War soldiers and their service to our country who are buried in the South Buffalo Cemetery in Washington County near Claysville, PA. As a participant in our State and National Societies, we provide donations to Alpha Bravo Canine, a program to train and provide support and service dogs to veterans who suffer from PTSD and TBI. We support conservation in many areas. Most recently PSSDAR has rededicated a site in the Allegheny National Forest, Penny Pines, which is a reforestation program. Through NSDAR, we support six schools through chapter donations of money, goods and time. Most recently, National Pike Chapter purchased a set of ramekins for use in the cafeteria at the Tamassee DAR School in South Carolina. A chapter project for next term will be supporting the Plant-a-Tree Program in the Allegheny National Forest through cash donations. National Pike Chapter directly supports the Madonna of the Trail, a tribute to our pioneer women, located in Washington County, Pennsylvania, through cash donations. This year we will celebrate our pioneer ancestors on June 8, 2019 by a wreath laying ceremony at the location of the Madonna of the Trail and presentation to the State Chair of the Madonna of the Trail Committee of the proceeds of our Piggy Bank Collection form the year 2018. Each year National Pike awards local students medals and certificates for excellence in scholastics and Good Citizenry. It is a formal celebration for the students who receive recognition. Participating students can enter contests on a different theme each year which may include an essay, a stamp, a photo essay, a banner, a poem, and community service.
