Small Seeds strives to support, strengthen and sustain families to create safer and more positive communities.
About This Cause
Small Seeds was founded in 1999. Since then, we have worked with over 22,000 families in our four service models: Mother to Son, Teen Discovery, Barbershop Boys, and Black Emerging Adolescent Males. Mother to Son: works with single mothers and their sons ages 5-15 through biweekly groups. Mother to Son provides mothers win training and support and provides their sons with a strong male role model and manhood training. Teen Discovery: works with teens and preteens to reach their full potential through leadership, coaching, and youth development curriculums (Youth Responsibilty Act). Teens in the program have gained confidence, better grades, better school attendance, and learned proper social skills. Barbershop Boys: provides self care and hygiene services to boys in the foster care system. These boys are given haircuts and youth coaches in order to learn proper hygiene and social skills. Black Emerging Adolescent Males: works with young men in the Pittsburgh Public School System in grades 3-8 develop leadership skills, social and emotional skills, as well as the ability to take advantage of their education.
