Mission Statement
The mission of Luke's House is to be a place of medical and spiritual hope, health and healing for the people of Greater New Orleans, to provide patient centered experiences for students, and to open a doorway to long-term healthcare solutions.
About This Cause
Luke’s House Clinic was founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to help address the lack of accessible and equitable healthcare following the storm. Since 2007, the clinic has provided completely free medical services to the community. We are proud to be the only clinic in our area that always offers in-person Spanish services or translation. We do not require identification nor do we have any eligibility requirements to receive care. Our clinic provides general wellness exams, immunizations, and physicals to children and adults. Our ‘well-woman’ appointments focus on gynecological health, family planning, and screening for STDs, HPV, and cervical and breast cancer. We work closely with a partner hospital to coordinate free mammograms. Luke’s House provides prescription vouchers so uninsured patients can begin treating their illnesses immediately. Depending on the prescription, these vouchers can cover several months of medication. We also maintain an inventory of free over-the-counter medicines. Our clinic provides comprehensive eye exams, as well as free reading or prescription glasses to those who need them. We also offer free behavioral health counseling in English and Spanish. Luke’s House is a volunteer-run, teaching clinic that has partnered with many area academic institutions including Louisiana State, Tulane, Loyola, and Dillard Universities as well as Ochsner Medical School. Volunteering at Luke’s House is an opportunity for area medical students and professionals to provide patient-centered, bilingual medical care. The final part of our mission is to be a doorway to long-term care. Our navigators greatly increase the number of patients who successfully establish ongoing primary care, and receive specialty care, social services, and financial assistance at local hospitals.
