About This Cause
KEW LEARNING ACADEMY strives to provide educational enrichment activities for a variety of learners to be thoughtful in risk taking, engaging in experiential learning, persistent in problem solving, embracing in collaboration, and diligent in working through the creative process. The Engineering Design process is the framework for instruction. To promote the interest of the learner, specifically females, in engineering careers, we provide connections between nontraditional subjects such as Interior/Fashion Design, Agriculture, Technology, and Fine Arts with academic concepts to promote an interest in high level academic courses, career pathways and college readiness. This educational approach uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.A.M.) as access points for guiding student’s inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Additional enrichment opportunities include activities that promote self-efficacy and mentoring activities. Some of the learning objectives of various programs are: • Utilize the Engineering Design Process to promote critical thinking skills • Identify nontraditional engineering careers, • Compare S.T.E.A.A.M. concepts with nontraditional subjects to promote an interest in challenging academic courses, • Perform experiments in nontraditional subjects to show relationships with academic concepts, • Recognize various technologies used in various industries; and • Increase knowledge to make informed decisions that promote healthy lifestyles. KEW LEARNING ACADEMY believes that when integrating basic academic concepts with career and technical education studies learners become engaged in the teaching and learning process and understand the relevance in learning essential educational concepts. Therefore, we offer a variety of engaging educational and mentoring programs using S.T.E.A.A.M. concepts to teach a variety of learners in the community. This concept provides a framework for teaching 21st century outcomes that are identified in four overall categories: 1) Integrated Instruction (core academic with career and technical education instruction); 2) Learning and Innovative Skills, 3) Information, Media and Technology Skills and 4) Life and Career Skills. Additionally, we partner with community-based nonprofit and for-profit and educational institutions to accomplish our objectives.
