Mission Statement
Our mission is to dramatically improve the lives of people living with peripheral neuropathy by: -Serving as the premier resource of information for patients, their families and healthcare providers -Accelerating a cure for peripheral neuropathies -Funding collaborative efforts of leading scientists -Raising awareness of peripheral neuropathy
About This Cause
The Foundation is entering its ten (10) year anniversary this October (2016). Our focus has been and will always remain until better treatments are developed and a cure is found. Additionally, we only work with today’s most gifted and dedicated neuroscientists who adopt our model of collaboration so that we can achieve optimal success in developing new treatments and searching for the cure! These specialists from around the country help us maintain a comprehensive view of the field and determine the research areas that hold the most promise in neuropathy research and treatment to develop new and effective therapies for peripheral neuropathy. FPN works to educate the public and healthcare professionals, to provide state-of-the-art treatment for patients with peripheral neuropathy and to serve as a catalyst for accelerating the pursuit of innovative therapies and eventually, a cure for painful neuropathies. Research FPN aggressively funds critical neuropathy research. Having recognized that no one laboratory has the compass to tackle the complex challenges of peripheral neuropathy, the Foundation organized a collaborative approach that fosters the exchange of new information and cutting edge technologies with academic and industry researchers alike. We are proud to work with scientists and physicians from world-class research institutions including Northwestern University, Johns Hopkins University, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Harvard Medical School and Icahn School of Medicine at Ichan School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center. In the past two years, we have been able to expand our consortium partners to include experts in the field from University of Utah and University of Kansas. The Foundation is proud of its work in developing the first national Peripheral Neuropathy Research Registry (PNRR). This Registry will generate data that will facilitate both basic and clinical research studies bringing improved etiology and development of peripheral neuropathy. This Registry focuses on Diabetic, Chemotherapy-Induced, HIV/AIDS and Idiopathic neuropathies. The data collected in the PNRR will ultimately result in the improvement of the ability to diagnose, treat, prevent and eventually, cure peripheral neuropathy Education FPN is dedicated to educating healthcare and medical professionals as well as people living with neuropathies and their families. The Foundation hosts free patient educational seminars, which are presented throughout the year, and webinars for patients, family members and health care professionals. This year we launched our new website, the most comprehensive and reliable information on neuropathy. Additionally, an important component to the Foundation’s educational initiatives is our International Research Symposiums. The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has built a philosophy around building collaborative partnerships with academia, industry and the National Institutes of Health—all bringing diverse expertise and strength to the table for advancing research that will transform the lives of those with peripheral neuropathy. The goal of the Scientific Program Committee is to host a multi-disciplinary meeting whereby the attendees can contribute to the overall success of the Symposium including: • Raise awareness of peripheral neuropathies • Critically review the drug discovery process • Highlight novel drugs in the pipeline for neuropathic pain • Establish pathways for funding that will drive research forward • Attract and fund young investigators to ensure the continued progress of research.
