Mission Statement
Hope For Families Worldwide is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation which exists to empower a generation of children and their families to bring HOPE to their lives by building spirit, mind, and body and by strengthening the family unit.
About This Cause
Camp Hope Worldwide exists to share the love of God with children and their families around the world. We believe if we can have a positive impact on the lives of children, families can be changed and strengthened. Since families are the basic building blocks of every society, we can help improve the world, one family at a time. The goal is that families, which currently have little or no hope, will not go another day without it. Hope For Families helps start programs, organizes and runs camps, and supports the work of existing ministries through practical and financial support, connecting people and organizations in the communities in which we work. We currently operate in the Baltic nation of Latvia, Costa Rica, and Richmond, Virginia. Fifteen years ago we felt a gentle proding to go and wildly love “the least of these”. We started visiting kids in eastern Europe - kids who were orphans, street kids, or kids who lived in social housing. A visit turned into the idea of a camp, and Camp Hope began. Our partner in Latvia asked one cool October day, “what do you do like this at home”. At the time I was making sandwiches for some street kids, and I am sure I looked confused. She clarified, “do you do Camp Hope at home”. I confessed we didn’t, and she quickly challenged me - “you can’t to this for my people and not do it for your own”. The next year Camp Hope Richmond was born. We’ve just completed our 10th summer of loving kids from our community who need to know there is more to life than what they see around them, that they aren’t defined by their circumstances, that they (and their future) are worth fighting for, and that God loves them. That message has changed lives all over our city, and kids from Mosby, Gilpin, Essex Village, Whitcomb, Ashland motels, Church Hill, Chamberlayne corridor, and homeless kids living in the Caritas program have heard a message that has changed the direction of their life. In 2016 we expanded our ministry into Costa Rica. We are focused on working in a slum area called Pavas. In concert with a local feeding program, we are providing a chance for kids to step out of their circumstances, and to just be kids. To have fun, eat and sleep well, and to hear the message of HOPE.
