Mission Statement
Martial Arts and Fitness for Low-Income Families and Children
About This Cause
The Quantum dojo aims to be a community movement and holistic health center offering classes in Quantum Martial Arts, yoga, body conditioning and circus arts. Quantum offers full kids karate program with after-school and weekend classes, offer classes with an opportunity for families to train together, and a separate adult program that focuses on a holistic approach to whole body healing, integration, expression and strength. As a registered CA 501(c)(3) nonprofit, one of Quantum’s core values and goals is to offer community building and practical skills to under-served, low-income families. For this reason we are committed to remaining in San Francisco’s Mission District, where we have identified a great need for services for kids and families. We will also have a full tutoring program, with a computer lab and homework tutors available for after-school, creating an integral atmosphere for learning and a safe space for kids and families to grow. The focus of our adult program is on teaching Martial Arts as an art. Within that, you will find not only practical self-defense, but body conditioning, self-confidence, self-discipline, flexibility, endurance, body awareness, coordination, balance, and focus. Quantum is designed as a healing center with the martial arts as its heartbeat, taking inspiration from such varied sources as quantum physics and Taoism. Generally, children who participate in martial arts programs gain confidence in themselves, self-control, courtesy, self-respect, and self-improvement. Our goal is to give kids new skills that are fun, fulfilling, and grow with the child. All of this is the creation of Master Rachael Evans, a fifth-degree black belt who has been training in and teaching martial arts for over 30 years, from her time spent in the US Marine Corps, stationed in 29 Palms, CA, to opening her first dojo in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood in 1995. Master Evans moved to San Francisco in 2007 and began teaching Quantum at Mission Yoga. The school is thriving, has outgrown its shared space at the yoga studio, and is primed to open a full-time school with classes offered five days a week. The Quantum spirit that moves through our blended tradition is strong and distinct. We’re known for the intensity of our sparring and training, for our sense of humor, our community spirit, and for our focus on whole-body health and each individual’s journey through the martial arts.
