Mission Statement
Founded in 2008, Abortion Care Network (ACN) is the national association for independent, community-based abortion care providers and their allies. Independent abortion providers care for the majority of people seeking abortion in the U.S. – often serving individuals and families with the fewest resources and in the most rural parts of our nation. Together we work to ensure the rights of all people to experience respectful, dignified abortion care.
About This Cause
Independent, community-based abortion clinics collectively provide the majority of abortion care in the United States, serving three out of every five people who have an abortion. These clinics provide care when and where others do not — operating in the most hostile states and compassionately providing care as pregnancy progresses. Access to abortion care across the nation is largely dependent on these clinics, yet independent clinic closures are unrelenting: the total number of independent clinics in the U.S. has been reduced by over a third since 2012. Not since the passage of Roe v. Wade has abortion access been more dependent on an individual's economic resources and zip code. In just the past 6 years, 32% of locally owned, independent abortion care providers throughout the US have been forced to close their doors due to onerous laws, economic forces, and abortion stigma. With continued efforts to restrict abortion both at the state level and through anti-abortion, conservative majority on the Supreme Court, access to legal abortion care is under imminent threat. Abortion Care Network (ACN) needs your support to safeguard the sustainability of independent abortion care providers in order to maintain access to abortion care.
