Mission Statement

The mission of Clothes To Kids of Denver, Inc. (CTKD) is to provide clothing to students from low-income or in-crisis families in Metro Denver, free of charge. We envision a community where all students have the clothing they need to feel comfortable, confident and prepared to thrive. Founded in 2008, CTKD was based on the concept of the original Clothes To Kids in Florida. Our founders felt inspired by the impact of the Florida operation and saw an opportunity to create a resource that addressed the high level of need among Denver’s students for clothing that was suitable for the weather and for school.

About This Cause

Central to the CTKD mission is our boutique, a 3,000 square foot space where preschool-12th grade students are invited to browse our wide selection of clothing for a school wardrobe, which includes 5 outfits, new underwear and socks (5 pairs each), a bra (optional), shoes and a coat. CTKD’s attractive store-like setting combined with our emphasis on providing shoppers with the best quality, selection and customer experience possible make CTKD the preeminent clothing resource for students in need in the 11-county Denver Metro Area. The students who shop at CTKD are experiencing some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable – poverty, homelessness, displacement and home removal. In this time of tremendous hardship for so many, CTKD has continued to serve as a nurturing, happy place for children and youth. The ultimate goal of CTKD is to help pave a path for academic success for students from low-income families. CTKD aims to enhance each shopper’s educational experience by helping them feel more comfortable and confident in the classroom, in turn helping them to focus on their studies and fit in with their peers. By supplying appropriate clothing in a welcoming environment to students in need, CTKD addresses an important, yet often over looked barrier that impedes student attendance, engagement and overall success in school. To be eligible for clothing, students must live in Metro Denver, be enrolled in grades preschool-12 or pursuing a GED (21 years old and younger), and be in need of assistance. To ease the burden on both families and our referring agencies (i.e., schools, human service agencies, shelters, hospitals/clinics, etc.), we suspended our requirement to provide a referral or proof of automatic qualification in early 2021. The need in the Denver Metro Area is significant, more than 207,000 students currently qualifying for Free and Reduced Lunch in our service area.
