Mission Statement
Saving Grace NYC's mission is to raise funds for the restoration and preservation of the building exteriors and gardens of Grace Church in New York, the distinguished New York City and National Historic Landmark.
About This Cause
Saving Grace NYC is a secular not-for-profit organization devoted to the restoration of the landmark architecture of Grace Church in New York. Grace Church is monumental in form and spirit – from the height of the spire (225 feet), to the vast interior space, to its position as a beacon for the broader community. The challenges that come with preserving such a monumental building are themselves monumental. In 2021, the building turned 175 years old, and the years of weather, pollution, subway vibrations, and other factors are taking their toll. Over the course of nearly two centuries standing at the intersection of 10th and Broadway, succeeding generations of New Yorkers who love the building have risen to the challenge, giving generously to ensure that it has survived for our present enjoyment and inspiration. Stewardship of the art and architecture of Grace Church now falls on a new generation of New Yorkers. By supporting the ongoing preservation of Grace Church, you can become a part of the continuum of individuals and communities who have looked to its dreaming spire as a symbol of hope, inspiration, and continuity in a changing world. Just as they helped ensure it will be here for this generation, you can help ensure that it will be there for the next generation as well. Grace Church, a National Historic Landmark designated for its architectural significance and place within the history of New York City. The church and other sacred sites located throughout the campus were designed and built by the architect James Renwick, Jr. in the Gothic Revival style from 1843 through 1883. The church and surrounding buildings are recognized as architectural masterpieces and represent three historic designations; 1) New York City Landmark (1966, 1977); 2) National Register of Historic Places (1974); and 3) National Historic Landmark (1977).
