Mission Statement
The Roxie Theater, a San Francisco landmark in the Mission District, brings people together to meet and connect through distinctive cinematic experiences. Guided by the passionate belief that engaging with a movie doesn’t end with the credits, we invite filmmakers, curators, entertainers and educators to interact with our audiences. We provide inspiration and opportunity for the next generation, and serve as a forum for the independent film community reflecting the spirit of the diverse Bay Area population. Your support is essential in keeping our classic theater running and bringing you the best in daring independent film programming. Thank you for donating!
About This Cause
The Roxie Theater is San Francisco's favorite non-profit art house cinema! We serve a unique role in the community as a gathering place for diverse audiences to engage with distinctive film programming that utilizes film to entertain, educate and inspire. In addition to our daring independently curated film program, the Roxie Theater is proud to be a host venue for SF’s most diverse slate of film festivals. The Roxie Theater is committed to this work because we strongly believe that film is a powerful agent in bringing people together and has the ability to not only entertain, but ignite new ideas, challenge worldviews, and encourage community dialogue. As the oldest cinema space in SF, we are passionate about keeping our historical space a thriving hub for our community to explore the art of film beyond the traditional Hollywood system. We have two auditoriums: the 234-seat Big Roxie (the oldest continually run cinema in the country!) and our 47-seat Little Roxie. We’re located at 3117 16th Street, between Valencia and Guerrero. We’re accessible from the 22, 14, 49 and 33 bus lines, two blocks west of the 16th Street BART stop, and three blocks east of the J-Church line.
