Mission Statement
Clinic by the Bay is a comprehensive primary care clinic for residents of parts of San Francisco and San Mateo counties who are without health insurance or the means to pay for medical care. Co-founded by Janet Reilly and Scott Hauge, the clinic celebrated its grand opening in the City’s Excelsior district on November 9, 2010. It is based on the Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) model. This successful approach to health care engages retired physicians and nurses, an often untapped community resource, to provide free medical care to the working uninsured. The VIM model was founded in 1992 by Dr. Jack McConnell and has since been replicated in 96 communities across 26 states. As a free model of care that relies on volunteers and not traditional fee-for-service reimbursement from insurance, Clinic by the Bay’s service delivery is resourceful, creative, and embraces innovative patient-centered technology.
About This Cause
From the moment a neighbor enters our front door to the end of their visit, they are treated with respect and dignity. Clinic by the Bay provides a range of outpatient services including: preventative and acute care; chronic disease management; prescription assistance; specialty referral; health and wellness education; and psychosocial assessment and referral. Our patient visits are based on a 45-minute appointment, allowing more time to develop relationships with providers. Each clinic visit includes integrated medical, mental health, and dental screenings, a truly innovative approach for a community clinic setting. Electronic Medical Records are used to ensure high quality care. We have completed 10,400 visits and served 1,700 patients by the end of July 2015
