Mission Statement

The Autism Recovery Foundation will seek to ensure that children and families are able to access Intensive Early Intervention Behavior Therapy by evidence-based qualified nationally recognized providers.

About This Cause

When families find their child slipping into autism, their lives can become dramatically affected. Their children come to be excluded from community events, schools, and friendships. Even the entire family can become isolated, because of the stresses of taking their child into community activities, where the demands of helping their child can be overwhelming. Not only do they hurt now, but every family fears for the future of adulthood, when they will no longer be there to help their child. Yet, research in Applied Behavior Analysis has shown us that the vast majority of the children can recover from the severe symptoms of autism. A few become independent without needing therapy. But most require intensive therapy in order to recover and become to lead more satisfying, independent lives. But the incidence of autism has been dramatically increasing over the past 30 years, while the availability of professionals and supports has struggled to keep up with the increase. The majority of the families still can not access the crucial supports that they need to promote their children's independence. So the focus of the Autism Recovery Foundation is to provide scholarships for the training of more professionals to meet the needs of the families, to provide financial assistance to families to access the ABA therapy they need, and to advocate for increased health insurance and Medicaid coverage of ABA therapy for the families. The Autism Recovery Foundation currently has sufficient funding to give 1) approximately 30 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate study in Applied Behavior Analysis each year; 2) small grants for ABA therapy to approximately 10 families each year; and 3) small grants to advocacy organizations to promote access to health insurance and Medicaid coverage of ABA therapy. The Autism Recovery Foundation has no paid staff, and instead relies on a volunteer board and in-kind donations for staffing. All of the money raised goes directly to the programs above.
