Mission Statement
The ACU provides resource information regarding autism in Utah on our website and at conferences and community events. We also participate in state committees, co-sponsor trainings and conferences, and take on special projects such as the Autism Specialty License Plate. We are 100% volunteer so all funds raised stay in the State of Utah for autism programs.
About This Cause
Mission Statement: The Autism Council of Utah is an independent Council working to foster collaboration, communication, and learning among families and agencies. Our aim is to promote access to resources and responsible information for individuals of all ages who have, or are affected by autism, or related conditions. The Council will accomplish this by supporting statewide partnerships to collaborate on special projects, research and training. The Autism Council of Utah (ACU) has been working diligently since 2005 to establish an effective organization that can benefit Utah’s families and agencies. Although we are a parent driven, independent Council, we have support from the Governor as well as the executive departments of the State. We are a non-profit organization and all volunteer. All funds raised go to autism programs in the State. The ACU focus is on supporting other organizations and agencies, and maintaining and improving services and resources for people with autism throughout the State. We have a great web site that allows everyone to see what’s going on in the autism arena in the State, including training videos and resources for families and professionals. The membership of the ACU consists of dedicated parents, professionals, organizations, and agencies across the State of Utah. Some of our projects are: • Journey Through Autism, a one-of-a kind exhibit • Autism Specialty license plate passed legislation, funds for autism • Sponsoring and co-sponsoring several autism conferences, trainings, and workshops, including the Autism and Faith Summit, and Managing Difficult Behaviors, Adolescent Adult Autism Summit, etc. • Representing ACU in several arenas such as Utah Autism Initiative (UAI), Governors Commission for Early Childhood Development, DSPD Lifespan Respite Coalition, Special Care Advisory Board, Special Educator, pediatric grand rounds, Utah Council for Exceptional Children, Autism Medicaid Waiver work group, Autism Treatment Fund Committee, Utah Autism Research Partnership, and others. • Collaborating with Utah State Speech Pathology, Utah Consortium for Special Education, Autism Genetic Research Exchange, Easter Seals, Utah FEAT, Utah Autism Coalition, Universities, State Departments • Actively supporting legislative priorities such as URADD, Supported Employment, autism pre-school funding, high cost children in public schools, transition services, and adult programs and housing • Co-sponsoring and assisting in the training and distribution of the Law Enforcement Training video, Autism & Faith, ABC’s of Autism, and other grants to create training videos for parents and professionals • The ACU has very little overhead, meetings are held at Pingree Center for Autism Learning, Leadership Team and Board are volunteer - many in-kind services are donated, all funds raised go back into the State for autism.
