Our mission is to cultivate a community of transformative learning and service, committed to spiritual development, social compassion, and care for the Earth.
About This Cause
Recognizing that the Earth is our sacred home and collective responsibility, we envision a world in which human beings live in harmony – with one another, with the natural world and within themselves. Guided by the vision of Thomas Berry, we fulfill our mission through programs in three areas: • Meditation and Spirituality, we offer interfaith mindfulness meditation courses and a variety of programs related to cultivating spiritual development. • Social Compassion programs explore the relationship between contemplative practices and tangible actions that impact complex social problems, especially those that affect the poor and marginalized. • Earth Care and Spiritual Ecology, we offer courses in Cosmology, the Great Work, Earth Advocacy, Mindfulness in the Natural World, as well as environmental internships for college students, field trips, and bus tours highlighting environmental justice issues and sustainable solutions in our city. We model responsible environmental practices on our 27-acre property, including composting, roof water capture, woodlands management, wetlands, organic gardens, and our SpiritScape nature discovery area. Since our founding in 2005, we have become the largest provider of mindfulness meditation instruction in the central U.S., serving over 10,000 individuals annually across our program areas, including many pro-bono clients. Core programs include general meditation classes, nature camps for over 400 children every year, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds, extensive retreat programs for youth and adults, and our Institute for Applied Mindfulness, which helps other non-profits and for-profits bring mindfulness into their organizational culture. We partner actively with dozens of local organizations that align with our mission. We also create media content, through our Youtube channel, our social media feeds, and our Earth and Spirit Podcast on National Public Radio.
