Mission Statement
Our mission is to serve the children of fallen military personnel who have given their lives while on active duty defending the United States of America. Birthdays are one of the most intimate events shared between a parent and child. The planning and anticipation of gifts and time spent with friends and family are enduring rites of passage that shape our lives. Unfortunately, the military men and women who willingly give of themselves to protect these landmarks of life often miss the celebrations. For those warriors who have paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives, there will be no opportunities to celebrate birthdays with their children. A Soldier's Child Foundation wants the children of our fallen heroes to know that their birthdays will still be celebrated and that their parents will never be forgotten.
About This Cause
U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Marcus Andrew "Marc" Golczynski wrote this in a letter to his family and friends shortly before he was killed in combat: "Don't feel sorry for us, we are warriors, and as warriors have gone before us, we fight and sometimes die so that our families don't have to. Stand beside us because we would do it for you. It is our unity that has allowed us to prosper as a nation." A Soldier's Child initiated to carry on the legacy of Staff Sgt. Marc Golczynski, a fallen Marine of the Iraq War. Daryl Mackin saw it as his responsibility to humbly present gifts to the kids of our fallen military that will never receive another birthday gift from that parent again, just like Golczynski's son Christian. As citizens of the United States of America, we are forever indebted to the men and women who unselfishly protect our liberties and freedoms. Through A Soldier's Child (ASC) Foundation, we want to let the children who are left behind know that the memory of their parents will not fade away. A Soldier's Child has three program focus areas 1.) Birthday Celebrations: We celebrate our recipients' birthdays every year up to age 18 by providing birthday gifts (birthday celebration packages.) We currently serve over 3,500 children. A group of volunteers meets monthly to shop, wrap, and ship birthday presents for the kids. 2.) Mentorship programs: These mentorship programs offer ASC children the opportunity to come together for a week of recreation and relationship-building where they form life-long bonds with other fallen soldiers' children. Educating them that they are not alone in their grief and brokenness gives them the courage and strength to go on. 3.) College Scholarships: ASC facilitates in college scholarships for $1,000 and up to $35,000 for our ASC recipients through our partner organization, The Folded Flag Foundation. A Soldier's Child Foundation desires to aid in the healing process of the children of our fallen soldiers by making them feel loved and celebrated by their country. By honoring their parent as a fallen hero on their birthday, it is ASC's goal to assist the child in gaining strength and courage to continue in their healing process. A Soldier's Child Foundation is completely dependent on volunteers around our great nation. A Soldier's Child Foundation was established to stand by the children of the military men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our lives and our country's freedom. ASC uses volunteers each month to shop, wrap, and ship birthday boxes to the ASC children who have a birthday the following month. Businesses and churches in cities around our nation coordinate with ASC's Executive Director, Daryl Mackin, to arrange for a day to facilitate these events. Volunteers are given specific lists from each child's birthday wish list. Volunteers will shop under the direction of Daryl, then meet at a location to wrap the presents and box them up, ready to be shipped around the nation.
