Mission Statement
MISSION Holistically reduce drug and alcohol use, addiction, and death by overdose, and the related social and economic costs to individuals, families, and employers by providing comprehensive drug and alcohol addiction services to New Hampshire residents.
About This Cause
Reality Check provides critically needed drug and alcohol addiction services to people who reside in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. We are primarily funded by federal grants, municipal funding, and individual donations. PREVENTION: We offer three school districts prevention education and initiatives to support students in middle and high school with prevention curriculum, mental health first aid training, suicide prevention, and refusal skills training to help reduce the onset of substance use. More broadly, we engage whole communities in prevention activities and initiatives because everyone has a part to play in preventing addiction. TREATMENT & RECOVERY: We offer drug and alcohol treatment counseling, recovery coaching, recovery events, and support groups to people working to become and stay sober from addiction. We have a monthly recovery hike to help support physical and mental health, and a variety of support groups including Alcoholics Anonymous, Addiction, Grief, and Loss, and ALL Recovery. Counselors help people identify the 'whys' they use and provide strategies to help change behavior. Recovery Coaches help develop client-centered health and wellness plans that identify recovery goals and the steps needed to attain them. Coaches also help people secure needed resources including employment, child reunification, transportation, housing, childcare, financial help, state benefits, health insurance, dental help, credit repair, and mental health services. TRAINING: We offer addiction trainings leading to credentialing with the State of NH as a Certified Prevention Specialist, a Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and a Certified Recovery Support Worker. Some trainings include the Recovery Coach Training series, Suicide Prevention, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Ethics, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Care, Mental Health First Aid, and Co-Occurring Disorders. EMPLOYERS: We offer services and strategies to NH employers who are trying to remain in ADA compliance by offering employees with substance use issues local resources and services to help them find support and achieve recovery. We train managers and supervisors on Addiction 101 which includes signs and symptoms of use, what to do in an overdose, mental health first aid, language and stigma, narcan administration, and remaining in compliance with the American's with Disabilities Act which covers people with a substance use disorder. We also help employers update policies for use violations to be more supportive and less punitive in response to violations. All services are currently funded by grants and donations and free to NH residents. For people seeking help from outside the Monadnock Region, we will ensure people get connected to resources closer to where they live so no one falls through the cracks.
