Mission Statement
GameChanger Charity's mission is to leverage technology and innovation to ease the pain & suffering of children facing life-threatening illnesses. GameChanger focuses on improving quality of life and mental health by delivering meaningful services directly to patients & staff in hospitals, awarding financial aid & college scholarships, gifting thoughtful packages of video games & toys and hosting unique gaming events for patients. Powered by the generosity of the gaming community & corporations around the world, GameChanger processes over 100 tons of donated goods annually, hosts online gaming events with celebrities, launches custom digital eCommerce campaigns & has brightened the lives of over 20,000 patients, family members & caregivers with over 94% going to the cause.
About This Cause
Our goal is to spread joy to the people in hospitals, inspire hope and provide light in a time of incredible darkness. We focus on delivering services in 3 areas: supporting the patient, supporting the family, and supporting the caregivers. Studies have shown that distraction therapy - like gaming - not only lowers patient pain scores, it also lessens patient levels of anxiety and depression that are common with hospitalized kids. It also keeps kids connected to their social support networks at a time when they need them the most. Gaming is for everyone and we work to support hospitals that cater to low income and rural communities as we believe that every child should have the ability to have the best patient experience as possible. Based in Orange County, GameChanger Charity (formerly DonateGames.org) was founded in 2007 by Jim Carol after witnessing the impact of video games and service groups had on his son Taylor during a 5 year battle with Leukemia. After Taylor survived/beat cancer, the father-son team dedicated their lives to inspiring children currently battling life-threatening illnesses and giving hope to others.
