Mission Statement

RainCatcher implements affordable, sustainable methods for providing clean water to vulnerable populations.

About This Cause

RainCatcher is a small charity based in Malibu, California that currently has programs in rural, vulnerable communities in Kenya and Uganda, as well as on the Navajo Nation and the Hopi Reservation in the American Southwest. RainCatcher uses both point-of-use filtration to convert available water into a safe, clean potable water and rainwater harvesting, to catch the rain and store it for ready access in communities. RainCatcher installs these rainwater-harvesting systems on schools, clinics, churches and orphanages in communities that struggle to access clean water for drinking and cooking. When a rainwater-harvesting system is installed, the result is a drastic reduction in the daily hours spent by children and women fetching water for use. With our point-of-use filtration, even dirty water fetched from puddles, ponds and other stagnant bacteria-filled water can be quickly and reliably filtered and be suitable for drinking. When RainCatcher initiates a project in a community, the cascading benefits of easier access to clean water include reduced illness, less time wasted walking long distances to retrieve water, more time spent in school, improved literacy rates and all of the additional indirect benefits of a healthier, better-educated population.
