Mission Statement
Motley Zoo Animal Rescue (MZar) is a foster-based, volunteer-powered, 501c3 nonprofit corporation that saves homeless animals who would otherwise be euthanized. We work to elevate the status of animals in society through rescue, rehabilitation, and education.
About This Cause
Motley Zoo is a foster-based, volunteer-powered animal rescue based in Redmond, WA. We take in animals from shelters and owners that cannot keep them and help them become adoption candidates- typically through expensive and extensive veterinary treatment as well as training and socialization. By removing obstacles to adoption, these animals (many of them special needs), are able to have a second chance in life! About our structure: Animals live in private, volunteer foster homes (until an adoptive home is found), so we are NOT a shelter. We simply don't have one location to house everyone- they are spread out throughout the community- and therefore an appointment is required to meet all animals. Foster homes are volunteer, private residences where those families take care of our rescues like one of their own until we identify a candidate we believe will make a great, long-lasting match in a family. We also operate a boarding kennel (MZ Woods Creek Kennels, Monroe WA) which helps us connect more tangibly with the community and raise funds for the rescue. Our focus: Our focus is specifically on matching- making sure the compatibility is there with an animal before a meeting is even scheduled, which makes our adoption process extremely effective. We believe we must move as quickly as possible- but with volunteer-powered efforts and compatibility as our focus, this means we cannot perform same-day adoptions. This is one major way in which a rescue is structured and operates differently than a shelter- and you should understand the difference when seeking a pet. There is plenty of info on our website regarding the process and how rescues and shelters operate very differently, in a complementary way to best serve the greatest number of pets and people. We also believe that we can only serve the animals best- and therefore the people seeking those animals too- when we do so with diligence and prudence. Therefore our process is focused on quality and efficiency, over speed. With foster-based rescue, it takes a few days to get approved and to set an adoption meeting. However, as a result of this extreme attention to detail and compatibility, we have an extremely high success rate- and an extremely low rate of return.
