For more information visit our website at https://annisa.org/ An-Nisa is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 2009. An-Nisa works to educate, empower, and enrich the community by providing support, mental health care, educational programs, and the necessary assistance to help clients regain self-sufficiency. An-Nisa is an advocate for people in crisis situations and is at the forefront of causes affecting clients and communities served. At its beginning, An-Nisa worked to prevent domestic violence in the community by providing structured support systems needed to regain self-sufficiency and a permanent place in society. An-Nisa handled many serious domestic violence cases; spousal abuse, parental abuse, and spousal and child abandonment. Approximately 3,000 families have been served with successful counseling and support. An-Nisa has grown substantially since its establishment in 2009 and has expanded to include a variety of services that enrich the community. Services provided through An-Nisa include: - Domestic Violence and Financial Case Management - Mental health care and neurofeedback - Education and prevention - Advocacy and outreach - Community fulfillment - Youth mentorship - Emerging Leaders initiative - Tutoring academy - Mawakhat - brotherhood/sisterhood financial program - 24/7 helpline - Legal referrals Domestic Violence and Financial Case Management: Available to both men and women experiencing family violence situations, An-Nisa’s utilizes trained case managers that specialize in providing necessary assistance and guidance to victims of domestic violence. Clients are provided with comprehensive services to achieve safety, stability, and self-sufficiency based on their situation and needs. Mental Health Care and Neurofeedback: A trauma informed approach is the foundation and guiding principles of An-Nisa’s mental health care services. Taking into account the significant effects that trauma has on people shifts the tone from victim-blaming to recognizing a person as a survivor. Neurofeedback is a new service that An-Nisa provides. Also referred to as EEG biofeedback, Neurofeedback teaches self-control of brain functions by measuring brain activity with sensors placed on the scalp. Education and Prevention: An-Nisa provides education opportunities that focus on prevention and awareness to reduce domestic violence and prevent it from entering homes. The programs focus on men, women, and youth and includes topics such as how healthy relationships look like and how to recognize signs of abuse and the steps to take following it. Advocacy and Outreach: The An-Nisa team works to be ambassadors of change in public health issues in the communities it serves. The outreach program builds long lasting relationships with organizations with similar missions and visions. Community Fulfillment: An-Nisa caters to the urgent needs of the community it serves. Community wide donation drives, Ramadan programs, refugee assistance and emergency response initiatives are the main focus of this branch of service. Emerging Leaders: An-Nisa’s new initiative called Emerging Leaders provides a safe space for the youth to grow through genuine authentic relationships. Volunteering opportunities, career coaching, in-person and virtual talks, and other activities are events that are dedicated to various youth age groups. Tutoring Academy: An-Nisa provides a free K-12 online tutoring service. The academy was founded in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to supplement the academic regression that many students experienced due to school closures and online schooling. Mawakhat: Also known as a brotherhood/sisterhood, this initiative mirrors the Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) commitment to connecting refugee families with families who can provide support. Sponsors have contributed financial assistance payments that help families with rent payment, utilities, medical needs, and much more. 24/7 Helpline: An-Nisa’s helpline is the first point of contact between individuals in need of assistance and the branch of An-Nisa that they need to be redirected to. Helpline operators are trained to respond to a variety of situations, including ones that may need 911 assistance. Legal Referrals: An-Nisa’s legal department assists An-Nisa clients with immigration and other legal needs. The referral system simplifies the process for clients who are in need of legal assistance.
