Mission Statement
Youth N.O.W. is committed to engaging youth in a nurturing community where they grow personally and academically through individualized programs that cultivate success.
About This Cause
Youth N.O.W.’s no cost middle and high school programs address the needs for academic and pro-social/emotional support for youth in our community. To safely and adequately support our students through the pandemic, Youth N.O.W. changed its programming to provide one-on-one tutoring for each student: 75% virtually and 25% in-person, outdoors, falling covid safety protocols. A morning Pod was created for students home alone without supervision needing support with distance-learning as well as a weekly basketball clinic to keep students active. No cost Saturday Family Events such as bilingual art lessons, bike rides, and hiking are offered to our families twice a month to create opportunities for connections and normalcy. Student workshops provided by our United Way United4Youth partners go over life skills including job readiness, alcohol and drug prevention, as well as healthy communications skills. On-going collaboration with the food bank and food prepared on site provides nutritious meals for students throughout the day. Youth N.O.W. staff and volunteer tutors are trained on the Search Institute’s Developmental Relationship Framework to effectively support our students by prioritizing developing relationships that provide care, support, challenge growth, share power, and expand possibilities. These relationships serve to nurture a student’s sense of belonging and help build their confidence, identity, self-efficacy, and belief in the future. Our staff and tutors monitor progress, put additional support and interventions in place to address not only academics, but also the overall health, wellness, and outcomes of each student. Each summer, Youth N.O.W. offers a low cost five-week full day program for middle school youth. Students go on weekly field trips and engage daily in recreational and prosocial activities: basketball, swimming, hiking, team building activities, as well as take part in enrichment classes: art, crafts, cooking, and music. Youth N.O.W. is rooted in equity for all youth and families and addresses an opportunity gap through its summer program. In an effort to support this, partial or full scholarships are available to ensure all students can participate. Once we can safely return to our pre-covid programming, Youth N.O.W. will go back to incorporating it’s communal model of learning, allowing for all students to be on site in our learning centers to receive academic support and one-on-one tutoring as needed. Our middle school program will resume it’s schedule of alternating between an hour of academics with an hour of recreation or enrichment. Youth N.O.W. will resume holding monthly socials for high school students and family nights at our middle school site will return for workshops surrounding topics like health, wellness, academics, finances, or to engage in a fun activity. Youth N.O.W.'s Vision: All youth thrive and contribute to the success of their community. Our Values: Respect, Integrity, Excellence, Collaboration, Community Youth N.O.W. has been dedicated to the personal and academic success of all youth since 2010.
