Mission Statement

Kendo is a way to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the katana (Japanese sword). It is a traditional spiritual art emphasizing discipline, character building, etiquette/manners, physical fitness, and friendship in order to facilitate greater harmony between all people. Kendo is NOT a form of self defense, and is not steeped in mysticism, nationalism, or violence.

About This Cause

Kendo, the "way of the sword", is a traditional Japanese martial art. Our dojo welcomes ages 7+, as well as teens and adults. Anyone is welcome to watch a practice anytime. We practice at Francis Albrier Community Center (2800 Park St) in Berkeley on Tuesdays from 6:15 - 8:15 pm and Thursdays from 7 - 8:30 pm.We are members of the Northern California Kendo Federation (NCKF) and the All-U.S. Kendo Federation (AUSKF). All instructors volunteer their time; fees/dues pay for insurance, rent, etc. You can visit our website at www.berkeleykendo.org.
