Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN is a nonprofit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need.
About This Cause
Riding a bike is one of the great joys of childhood. For a child, the freedom of riding a bike is akin to flying. Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN (FB4K MN), a 501(c)(3) organization, wants every child to have this experience no matter what their family circumstance or socio-economic background. FB4K MN exists to give low-income families and children bikes by collecting, refurbishing and distributing used bikes to kids in need. We do this for the kids who would never get to ride a bike otherwise, for moms and dads who dream of teaching their children to ride a bike. We give kids a reason to exercise and improve their health while experiencing that slice of childhood joy that every kid deserves. FB4K MN has given away 5,000-7,000 bikes annually to kids in Minnesota. Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN believes that every kid should have a bike--its fun, it’s a practical lesson in responsibility, it’s a mode of transportation, it’s a lifelong tool for maintaining health and it’s a rite of passage. The overall goals of Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN are: • To collect and distribute bikes to 7,000+ low-income children in need in Minnesota annually; • To build a stable and diverse funding base to support the operations of FB4K; • To give kids the opportunity to own, care for and use a bicycle; • To increase the health and well-being of low-income children by giving them a bicycle FB4K MN works with over 100 social service nonprofits to distribute donated bicycles to kids in need. Volunteers partner with FB4K MN because it's a rewarding experience to share with over 3,000 volunteers and they believe that a bike can be transformative in a child’s life. Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN represents the largest bike give-away program in the United States and occupies an important and under-served segment of service to the low-income population. There are very few organizations that give away bicycles, and none provides bikes at the volume of FB4K MN.
