Mission Statement
Asante Sana for Education’s Mission is to empower Tanzanian youth and strengthen communities through education.
About This Cause
Asante Sana For Education was founded in 2010 to help with a wide range of educational needs in Bagamoyo District in Coastal Tanzania. BEE Montessori Preschool: ASFE opened the BEE Montessori Preschool in February 2017 with 13 preschool students aged 2 1/2 to 4 years old and started the 2020 school year with 86 students. The preschool is tuition free and not only provides students with a Montessori education in English but also with nutrition to help their young bodies grow strong. Students Empowering Students: Students Empowering Students (SES) members are Tanzanian secondary school students committed to improving their education by attending SES after school and school holiday programs at the ASFE Learning Center. The Students Empowering Students program uses writing prompts from students of all grades throughout the world, Skype, donated educational supplies and student/teacher service trips to Tanzania to help teach English and computer skills to SES members, their families, and teachers in an environment with limited electricity and access to the internet and to teach them about life outside Tanzania from a student’s point of view. Our Tanzanian Students Empowering Students members respond to the same prompts which help the global students learn about the reality of life in the developing East African country, and learn how much they have in common with these students as well as their differences and how a small act can make a big difference to so many people. Asante Sana For Education eliminates many of the problems facing SES members’ education by funding their school fees as well as covering medical expenses thus reducing the number of missed school days. Graduates of the SES program continue to attend classes in our learning center as well as work with our staff choosing and preparing for advanced education in college and university with the financial support of ASFE. Days for Girls: we travel to primary and secondary schools plus remote villages to give health and hygiene lessons and provide the girls with the Days for Girls reusable menstrual kits. As of 2020 we have distributed over 2000 kits. Building primary schools: Through the building of primary schools, Asante Sana For Education (ASFE) has committed to helping rural villages that lack reasonable access to education. These schools can range in size from small classrooms with an office and teacher house, to a full campus comprising of classrooms, several teachers’ houses, wells, latrines, and athletic fields. It is extremely important for the community to take an active role in building their school. When working with ASFE, the community is responsible for clearing the land and fundraising to cover a portion of the expenses. The community is also responsible for submitting the necessary government paperwork to insure that teachers and school materials will be available as soon as the school is complete. Consistent with ASFE’s mission, skilled local contractors perform all labor, which provides much-needed jobs in the area In addition to building new schools, ASFE helps to restore and supplement existing schools, so they too are able to provide better education to the youth in remote villages.
