New Virginia Majority Education Fund (NVMEF) is a power-building organization that engages new Americans in a more deliberate and strategic way by combining targeted voter organizing with the ideological approach to community organizing that has developed over the last thirty years. Our organization strives to create a powerful movement to transform Virginia through voter engagement and issue campaigns that develop civic leadership and build public support.
About This Cause
New Virginia Majority Education Fund (NVMEF) is a power-building organization that engages new Americans in a more deliberate and strategic way by combining targeted voter organizing with the ideological approach to community organizing that has developed over the last thirty years. Our organization strives to create a powerful movement to transform Virginia through voter engagement and issue campaigns that develop civic leadership and build public support. Non-partisan civic engagement is central to our strategy to build power and transform Virginia. Elections and non-partisan civic engagement are opportunities to create an issue environment, engage tens or hundreds of thousands of people, and advance our issue platform. It is important that this be a long-term strategy and not an approach that is utilized once every four years. Elections for every scale of government (local, state and national) are all important. This cycle of large scale civic engagement followed by intensive grassroots organizing is our strategic approach to building power. We invest heavily in leadership development and strategic communications. Over the last 7 years, we have established ourselves as Virginia’s leading civic engagement organization and are at the center of numerous coalitions and collaborations. NVMEF’s organizers have knocked on over 1 million doors, engaging voters of all colors, women, low-income working people, and youth and has grown to be a statewide organization with particular capacity along Virginia’s urban crescent, from Northern Virginia to Hampton Roads, as well as on college campuses. We have built 8 local organizing committees that work on a variety of racial justice and climate justice campaigns. With nearly 50,000 members and supporters, NVMEF is a multi-racial, multi-issue organization that uses large-scale civic engagement, leadership development, advocacy and strategic communications to advance our goals of creating a democratic, just and sustainable Virginia.
