Mission Statement

Scandinavian American Theater Company (SATC) is a non-profit theater company founded to provide Scandinavian perspectives through the new generation of Scandinavian playwrights and theater artists. We present contemporary plays and inventive takes on the classics from the Nordic region, which includes Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. We are committed to strengthening the relationship between Scandinavia and the United States through collaborations and interdisciplinary artistic exchange that examine and challenge the cultural status quo.

About This Cause

Scandinavian American Theater Company (SATC) is proud to announce our 10-Year Anniversary with our first annual SATC Nordic Award in recognition of artists who through their exceptional work have made significant contributions to strengthening the cultural relationship between the Nordic countries. The inaugural two Nordic Award 2018 recipients are Danish actor, producer, screenwriter and playwright Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) for his contribution to film and television, and Sweden’s Lena Endre (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) for her work as an actor and director in film, television, and theater. The event will take place at the stunning venue Papillon Bistro & Bar in Midtown Manhattan on December 8th, 1-3 PM. From December 7th-10th, 2018, we also invite you to join us in celebrating the start of our 10th anniversary at our highly successful Nordic Stage festival introducing new plays at Theatre Row on W. 42nd St. in New York City. Nordic Stage is presented in association with Sweden’s eminent theater, Dramaten/The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, and Dramatikkens Hus/The Norwegian Center for New Playwriting in Oslo, and Mungo Park Theatre in Copenhagen. After New York, SATC will bring Nordic Stage to Washington, D.C. where a selected program will be showcased at House of Sweden. SATC is a New York based theater company founded in 2009 to share the Scandinavian perspectives through the new generation of Scandinavian playwrights and theater artists. Since our founding, we have presented 14 theater productions, 44 staged readings, 52 playwrights, 26 directors, and more than 250 actors. With your support we will be able to increase our scope and reach a wider audience. Our work is regularly reviewed both in the U.S. press, including The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Time Out, as well as in Scandinavian press. We are one of the largest gateway for Nordic talent to present their work in the United States. Our close relationship with all the Nordic consulates and art councils offers invaluable support alongside the financial support provided by foundations, organizations and valued donors like you. Please join the SATC family and be part of our future. As ambition and achievement expands, so does our need for financial support from our community. We sincerely hope that you will contribute to our 10-year anniversary fund to help guarantee the future of this invaluable company.
