Mission Statement

The Westchase District Community Fund exists to organize and provide resources to produce or support local projects, programs or events which create a positive impact on the quality of life in Westchase District.

About This Cause

Created by the Texas Legislature in 1995, Westchase District is a municipal management district funded by local property owners in a 4.2 square-mile area centered on the Sam Houston Tollway between I-10 and US-59 on the west side of Houston, Texas. Westchase District promotes economic growth in the area by enhancing mobility, beautification, public safety, planning and development of the District. The District conducts projects and programs to strengthen and promote the Westchase area as a highly desirable area in which to do business, work, shop, live, and invest. In short, the District ensures that its businesses, property owners, tenants and residents thrive by creating economic benefits. For 25 years, the District has contributed to the betterment of one of Houston’s busiest areas. Today, the Westchase community is a vibrant living and working community with a high-quality downtown. Residents value the region’s safety, mobility, entertainment amenities, as well as the growing interconnected hiking, biking and pedestrian ways. Chief among the District’s short-range goals is partnering with the private sector to make possible community-enhancing greenspace for the enjoyment of all. In 2010, the Westchase District Community Fund (WDCF) was formed as a charitable arm of the Westchase District. The WDCF is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization, overseen by a volunteer board of leading citizens, that raises and grants money to advance projects and programs that improve the quality of life for all who live, work and visit Westchase District. The WDCF’s main priorities are Fundraising, Health, and Community Outreach. In previous years, the WDCF has hosted/participated in many events. The most notable is the Annual Westchase Corporate Challenge. Dubbed “A Field Day for Grown-Ups”, this event brings together the local business community for a day of dodgeball, basketball shootout, briefcase relay, kickball, and soccer. Over its 20-year tenure, the Corporate Challenge has raised more than $250,000. Each year, half of the proceeds go to Quillian Recreation Center to help pay for summer camps for children living in low-income households. Over the past two years, the WDCF has hosted a Back-to-School Supply Drive. An estimated $10,000+ worth of backpacks, notebooks, writing utensils, markers, and other classroom equipment, have been generously donated to elementary and middle schools within Westchase District boundaries (Sneed Elementary, Revere Middle School, The Westchase Neighborhood School, and West Houston Assistance Ministries). The WDCF has recently donated soccer goals to Sneed Elementary, painted murals at Trailside Park, and hosted Legislative Breakfasts to discuss local and state elections. Other notable WDCF recipients include 5 Works, Greater Houston Police Activities League, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, Literacy Advance, and Playworks. In 2021, the WDCF will focus efforts on local parks. Westchase District is one of the most greenspace deficient areas in the City of Houston. However, that is about to change thanks to two new parks coming to the area - Woodchase Park and Wilcrest Park. Each park will include performance pavilions, dog parks, children's play areas, seating groves, event lawns, restrooms, fitness equipment, and beautiful landscaping. Both Woodchase Park and Wilcrest Park will offer over 400 free programs and events to the community thanks to our generous donors!
