EDUCARE DC

Mission Statement

Educare DC's mission is to eliminate the opportunity gap for young children living in poverty, and give them the skills necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond. The first Educare school was created in 2000 in Chicago’s Robert Taylor Homes public housing development. The Educare model of high-quality, research-based early childhood education has since been piloted, refined, and strengthened in communities across the country, and it has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness in improving outcomes for young children ages birth to five.

About This Cause

Educare DC, a provider of early childhood education (ECE) services in Ward 7 of Washington, DC, opened in 2012 and is part of the national Educare Learning Network (ELN), which is comprised of 25 high-quality, research-based early childhood schools. Educare DC serves children ages prenatal through age five. We utilize data to continuously improve our program, share best practices, and advocate for quality improvements and funding for high-quality early learning. The approach and level of quality that Educare DC brings has frequently been absent from early childhood education in general, especially in high-poverty areas. Our mission is to eliminate the opportunity gap for young children living in poverty, and to help them develop the skills necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond. Ultimately, we aim to ensure that all children, in particular children who are historically underserved as a result of systemic racism and underinvestment, enter kindergarten with the skills they need to be successful in school and in life.
