Mission Statement
At The Crossroads reaches out to homeless youth and young adults at their point of need, and works with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives. By bringing our services directly onto the streets, we cultivate long-term, unconditional relationships with young people who would otherwise be disconnected from consistent support. We empower our clients to accomplish their individual goals, build community, pursue their passions, and find their own paths to happiness and stability. We believe that there are no limits to what our clients can achieve, and that every homeless youth deserves the chance to build an outstanding life.
About This Cause
ATC brings food, essential supplies, and counseling support directly to the streets. Our program is designed to support young people who are not accessing services for a variety of reasons—including a lack of knowledge of services, past negative experiences with providers, and the likelihood that they have been targeted by law enforcement rather than services. We believe that real, lasting change requires compassion, time, and a supportive relationship in your life. ATC walks every step of the way with our clients, listening when challenges arise, advocating for them when they encounter obstacles, and finding creative solutions that work for them. When young people on the streets have even one relationship they can rely on, it can be a safe place for them to dream beyond day-to-day survival and imagine the life they want to build. In over 22 years, we’ve conducted over 16,000 hours of street outreach, worked with over 8,200 young people, and engaged 1,600 of them in intensive counseling relationships. Currently, we are reaching over 600 individual youth on the streets of San Francisco each year but hundreds remain disconnected. ATC is preparing to scale to reach more of these youth. From a recent client satisfaction survey, we learned that 55% of clients are not accessing services outside of ATC; 100% of clients often or always feel they are treated with respect by ATC staff; 97% have accessed ATC for a referral to additional services; and 90% of clients reported making progress on one or more of their individual goals.
