SEATTLE ANIMAL SHELTER FOUNDATION

SEATTLE, Washington, 98139-0006 United States

Mission Statement

In 2010, the Seattle Animal Shelter and a committed group of volunteers recognized that there were certain needs beyond the scope of what the City could fund. To better address these needs, the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) was formed. SASF raises critical funds to help enrich the lives of Seattle’s animals and empowers volunteers and the local community to become part of the effort. SASF supports the programs and initiatives of the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS) by engaging our community, increasing awareness and raising funds.

About This Cause

SASF is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers dedicated to enriching and enhancing the lives of animals cared for by the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). SASF reflects the support that the Seattle community and shelter volunteers have for this essential Seattle City agency. SASF raises funds that help thousands of dogs, cats and critters every year. SASF provides SAS with new ways to support the many services and programs it provides for animals and the Seattle community, such as: Construction of an onsite veterinary clinic so animals no longer have to wait to be transported to other facilities for medical treatments, check-ups and urgent care. Construction of an onsite X-ray suite for shelter animals. The X-ray suite is also used for gathering forensic evidence in cruelty and abuse cases so that SAS can prosecute the abusers. Ongoing funding of much needed medical supplies and medical equipment. The creation, implementation and funding of the Behavioral Training Program that provides behavioral training to dogs who would normally be euthanized due to unsocialized behavior. Dogs who have experience cruelty and abuse tend to not trust humans, and this program helps them realize that the world isn't such a dangerous place. With a 100% success rate, every dog that has gone through this program has found a loving, supportive and secure forever home. Ongoing support for Animal Officers; training, conferences. SAS is the only shelter in King County that can rescue animals from abusive and cruel situations and legally prosecute the abusers. Ongoing funding of the Foster Care Program (640 foster families) that provides temporary housing for surrendered animals, animals with shelter stress, cruelty/court case animals and hospice care. Ongoing funding for the Fospice Care Program for cats needing to spend their last days in a loving foster home with dedicated and experience fospice parents. Ongoing funding for medical treatments and medical supplies for all shelter animals. Construction of the new cat and critter rooms and cat condos enabling cats and critters to roam freely and securely in a large open space. Construction of the Meet & Greet room so potential adopters and shelter animals can get to know each other in a calm environment. Ongoing funding of the Quality of Life Improvements Program, so all shelter animals can have a comfortable and less stressful stay. Construction of new dog kennels to eliminate shelter stress and help create a more calm and quiet atmosphere. Ongoing funding of volunteer programs (1000+ volunteers) Ongoing funding of public education programs Ongoing funding of the Spay and Neuter Assistance Program for pets in low income families. Ongoing funding for programs that support the needs of homeless and unwanted animals in the King County community. To all of our generous donors, thank you for being one of the thousands of people that believe the Seattle Animal Shelter can be both a temporary home, and yet a permanent place of hope and compassion for all animals in need. We couldn't do it without you!
