Mission Statement

Neighbors for Clean Air seeks to create a healthier Oregon by reducing harmful air pollution, everywhere, for everyone, all of the time.

About This Cause

Neighbors for Clean Air was founded in 2010 with a mission to create a healthier Oregon through the reduction of air pollution, doing so through an environmental justice lens. NCA upholds state and federal air emissions regulations and advances deep and broad-based change through active community engagement with our neighbors, supporting change with regulators, local municipalities, state legislature, federal government, and business leaders. We work to reduce sources of air pollution from industry, transportation, construction and more, including the hyperlocal sources that can adversely affect health and negatively impact quality of life. NCA began organizing in Northwest Portland to argue that better standards were needed to protect the air, and worked with residents to ensure that one of the worst polluters signed a Good Neighbor Agreement to commit $5 million to reduce pollution. Recent successes include work to educate and engage our communities around HB 2007, which will reduce diesel pollution in the Portland area by ensuring that older trucks transition to newer, cleaner models. We were also instrumental in the adoption by Multnomah County and the City of Portland of Clean Construction Standards, which mandated that equipment used in their publicly-funded construction projects be less polluting.
