Mission Statement

The mission of Friends of Matènwa is to provide strategic initiatives and financial measures to support the Matènwa Community Learning Center (MCLC), a democratic model of hands-on, non-violent, mother tongue education that respects local Haitian priorities and values. MCLC is sharing tools that give communities greater capacity to TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES: children are learning; gardens are flourishing; water is flowing; and violence is reduced. With methodologies that promote dialogue and self-determination, community members are discerning how to solve their own problems, become more self-reliant, and rise above their circumstances.

About This Cause

Friends of Matènwa supports programs that offer the Matènwa community and by extension other communities of Haiti, opportunities to achieve their expressed goals regarding education, social justice, community and cultural development, health and welfare goals and priorities.
