CASSANDRAS CURE FOR CANCER FOUNDATION

MEQUON, Wisconsin, 53097 United States

Mission Statement

As a legacy to Cassandra Brown who died in 2010, we raise funds to increase awareness and help find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

About This Cause

The purpose of Cassandra’s Cure is to honor the memory of Cassandra Brown through sponsoring charitable events from which proceeds will be donated to 501(c)(3) medical and research organizations in efforts to aid in finding a cure for pancreatic cancer. Cassandra was diagnosed with this disease in December 2008. For more than a year, Cassandra gracefully battled pancreatic cancer, showing her strength and being a role model to us all. Unlike many diagnosed with this disease, she was blessed with over a year’s worth of happy times, leaving an everlasting footprint in the lives of those around her. In March of 2010, Cassandra’s fight was over. The Cassandra’s Cure for Cancer Foundation was created as a legacy and tribute to her. According to the American Cancer Society, pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States and has the lowest relative survival rate. Nearly 75% of those diagnosed with this form of cancer die within a year due to its vague symptoms, the lack of detection tools/test, and the limited treatment options. Unlike in the cases with other cancers, the tumors are operable in only approximately 15% of patients. According to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, spending on pancreatic cancer research represents only 2% of the total annual cancer research budget for the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In order to truly make a breakthrough in finding a cure for this form of cancer, increased awareness and funding are needed. Nearly 40,000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the U.S. each year and almost the same number dies. As such, the Cassandra’s Cure for Cancer Foundation, Inc. aligns with like-minded 501(c)(3) organizations whose missions and goals are aimed at advancing research to find a cure for pancreatic cancer, supporting patients & families, and generating a broader awareness of the disease. More specifically, throughout each year, Cassandra’s Cure sponsors fundraising events from which proceeds will be donated to well established, non-profit pancreatic cancer research and advocacy organizations of choice to provide hope and increase the survival rate associated with this disease. We do not fundraise for any specific organization and are not organized solely to contribute or fundraise for any specific entity. The signature fundraising event for Cassandra’s Cure is an annual charity golf tournament.
