Mission Statement
Our mission is to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research to advance cures for children. Our vision is to deliver hope to children and families fighting cancer.
About This Cause
Braden's Hope For Childhood Cancer raises awareness and funds for research treatments to bring cures to children with cancer. As of January 2023, we will have awarded over $5.5 million and have made a commitment to fund an additional $10 million for research treatments. Childhood cancer is the #1 killer by disease among children, yet all childhood cancers combined receive less than 4% of the National Institute of Health's Research budget. Research will lead to cures as many of the gold standard treatments for childhood cancers are adult drugs that are 50-60 years old. We fund therapies that are targeted to cancer cells and are therefore less toxic to the child during treatment. This allows the opportunity for children to have significantly fewer life-long health side effects from their treatments. Our primary investigators are located in Kansas City at Children's Mercy Hospital and KU Cancer Center and they collaborate with numerous institutions from across the US and into Mexico. We have a rigorous two-step process for selecting and awarding our research grants including a Scientific Review Group (SRG) and a Research Review Committee (RRC) who make certain that the science is reliable and valid and that the studies meet our mission and vision. We receive annual reports about studies documenting the progress made toward the goals and those studies are reviewed each year. Together with your help, we can bring hope to these children with cancer.
