Mission Statement
Kitten Associates is an award-winning, 100% volunteer-run, non-profit cat rescue, saving cats from kill-shelters or from dangerous life on the streets. We also have a free cat behavior consulting program to help keep cats from losing their homes in the first place. We're one of the few no-kibble fed rescues as one of the cornerstones of what we do is based on species appropriate nutrition for cats of every age. Our program, Kitties for Kids, earned us a Certificate of Special Recognition from the State of CT for our outstanding efforts supporting the families after the tragedy here in Newtown, CT. Our program mascot, a 6-month old kitten named Fred, won the Pet of the Year award from the CT Veterinary Medical Association for helping kids find their smiles again.
About This Cause
We rescue and place in our foster care network, as many cats and kittens from High-Kill Shelters, or from dangerous situations living on the streets as possible. Helping remove cats from kill-shelters not only makes room for more animals at each shelter; it also reduces the stress on animal care workers who would have been charged to euthanize these cats. Each foster cat or kitten in our program is available for adoption after they are completely vetted, regardless of costs. After they are healthy and spayed/neutered, they are adopted into carefully screened homes with loving families, to ensure these animals are never at risk for being in a shelter again. While adoptions are key part of our strategy, reduction of pet overpopulation, consulting on cat behavior issues (a free service we provide to anyone who needs it) and educating about species appropriate nutrition is an important part of what we do. Kitten Associates is a non-profit animal rescue, 100% volunteer run, with a network of foster homes. We rely on donations from the general public in order to support our rescue program efforts. Since our opening in 2010 we have helped save over 400 lives.
