Mission Statement
Austin Achieve is a tuition-free, open enrollment, public charter school preparing East Austin youth to attend and excel at top universities. Our vision is to build the next generation of community leaders by closing the opportunity gap for our students and their families. We achieve this goal by equipping students to become self advocates.
About This Cause
Austin Achieve was founded in 2011 to address the cycle of failing schools, unemployment, and poverty that has excluded Northeast Austin from the vibrant growth many other Austin residents have enjoyed in the past several decades. At the time of our founding, Pearce Middle School was the campus of residence for our neighborhood, and was the lowest-performing public middle school in the entire state of Texas. We began our journey in response to the need for a high-quality public middle school and opened with a single class of 125, 6th grade students. We have progressively scaled our model to reach an increasing number of students each year. This school year we will offer programming to 850 scholars in 6th-11th grades. By 2020, Austin Achieve will grow to serve over 2,000 students in Pre-K through 12th grades. At Austin Achieve we offer an array of services, ranging from in-school programming to after school activities to social-emotional support. The following initiatives set us apart from other quality public schools in Austin: We offer a four-year college readiness class series All high school scholars participate in a daily college readiness course so they can enroll and persist at the best-fit universities. This four-year program means every scholar will complete over 700 hours of college prep coursework by the time they graduate. We teach beyond the classroom Our “whole child” approach includes guidance counseling, Restorative Justice, and family based social services. Through our free after-school programs, scholars have access to a safe environment where they cultivate additional leadership and learning opportunities. All students will graduate with knowledge of two programming languages Our scholars participate daily computer literacy and coding classes supported by our 1:1 student-to-computer ratio. Our programming curriculum includes cumulative lessons in Snap, Python, and Java. Our teachers are leaders in the field of education Our role as a nimble charter school is to act as a laboratory for innovative educational practice that can be replicated in schools across the country. To this end, Austin Achieve teachers have the freedom and flexibility to develop unique curriculum, based on student need.
