Mission Statement

Our mission is threefold: - first, to provide moral support and fellowship to people with Parkinson’s Disease, their families and caregivers; - second, to raise awareness and disseminate information regarding Parkinson’s Disease; - third, to act as a resource center for members and others who would like to know more about Parkinson’s. We have been promoting quality of life for people with Parkinson’s Disease through sharing, advocacy, and education since 1985. We are a non-profit, tax-exempt organization.

About This Cause

The Parkinson's Disease Support Group of the Mid-Hudson Valley was founded in 1985. We have members who were recently diagnosed and members who have lived with the disease for 20-30 years. Both people with Parkinson's and those who are their care partners or family members are welcome. Our non-profit group is facilitated by a volunteer Board, with 340 on our mailing list. Prior to COVID-19, we had from 35 to 60 attending our in-person, 4th Friday of the month meetings from 10 AM-Noon. At these meetings we had tables of Parkinson's articles, brochures and information on local resources, as well as a table of our library books available for borrowing. The meetings offer presentations by neurologists, physical therapists and resources who serve the Parkinson's population, as well as opportunities for discussion among people with Parkinson's and care partners. We separate into smaller groups for the latter. Starting in mid-2022, we resumed holding in-person meetings, but continue to have some meetings via Zoom. Our Support Group also publishes a monthly newsletter, which we mail out the week before each meeting. Our dues are minimal at $15 a year or $20 for a family, which helps defray the cost of our newsletter.
