MANY LANGUAGES ONE VOICE

Washington, District of Columbia, 20009 United States

Mission Statement

Many Languages One Voice's mission is to foster leadership and provide tools for greater civic participation of immigrants in DC who do not speak English as their primary language in solutions that impact their lives. We mobilize the community to prompt systemic change to meet the goal of language justice in the District.

About This Cause

Many Languages One Voice’s centers the leadership of immigrant and refugee communities of color to promote their own liberation. For over 10 years, MLOV has worked to build power among our community to change systemic inequalities by organizing and advocating for linguistic, economic and racial justice. With the pandemic, we have pivoted our grassroots organizing and advocacy programs to advance a racially and economically equitable Covid-19 recovery, while keeping our goals of language access and full immigrant inclusion in sight. We are the only organization in DC that brings together Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, and Refugee leaders across languages and cultures to address the issues impacting their daily lives. MLOV trains our 300+ members as advocates and organizers to enrich community-driven leadership. In creating inclusive and affirming spaces, we voice the demands of DC’s most vulnerable and transform systems that adversely impact their daily lives. MLOV is composed of five teams: Outreach & Education; Sanctuary; Youth Leadership; Early Childhood; and Worker Justice. Together we seek to establish the District as an exemplary model of a “Sanctuary City”.
