Mission Statement

The organization’s mission is to educate the people of the Pacific Northwest, as well as across the United States about the Belarusian folk culture.

About This Cause

VOLYA Group "Center for Research, Collection, and Restoration of Material and Nonmaterial Belarusian Culture” was formed as a non-profit educational charitable organization in November of 2010 by Volya Dzemka and Olga Sukhover. The organization’s mission is to educate the people of the Pacific Northwest, as well as across the United States about the Belarusian folk culture. We strive to help preserve Belarusian folk songs by collecting, recording, studying and performing them, both in the United States and worldwide. The group strives to accomplish its mission by performing at community organized festivals and cultural events in the United States while also conducting ethnographic expeditions to Belarus to collect and record Belarusian folk songs in their authentic form. The group also collects and restores authentic Belarusian and Ukrainian costumes, and maintains an audio collection of authentic Belarusian Folk Songs as well as a library of published material related to Belarusian folk art, history and culture. The collected material is translated into English to make it available to a broader audience. In August 2015 group has been approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, charitable organization under the 501 (c)(3) section. The group does not participate in commercial activities, and instead relies on personal contributions from its members as well as the community to support its mission. You too can help us accomplish our goal of preserving authentic Belarusian folk art by making a donation. Thank you for your interest in Belarusian culture.
