Mission Statement
Women’s Fund of Hawai`i supports innovative, grassroots programs that empower women and girls in Hawai`i. We believe that when women thrive, communities prosper.
About This Cause
Women's Fund of Hawai`i makes grants to programs that: * Help the most vulnerable women and girls realize their potential * Promote women's financial security and girls' strengths and leadership * Build on the gifts, strengths and assets of women and girls and promote their well-being. * Address the factors that stand in the way of women's success, including violence, adolescent pregnancy, low self-esteem, physical and mental health problems, substance abuse, prostitution, incarceration, immigrant status, homophobia, inadequate childcare, sports inequities, reproductive rights, poverty, disabilities and racism. We accomplish our mission by educating, fundraising and making grants. Our educational program includes raising awareness about important issues affecting women and girls in Hawaii`i and what organizations are doing to address them. We raise monies from individuals, foundations, and corporations. We distribute these funds in the form of grants to community-based organizations. A fund is necessary because the non-profit agencies that address women's inequalities receive little philanthropic support. Throughout the country, programs serving women and girls receive less than 2% of all philanthropic dollars. Each year the applicant pool for grants continues to rise and we are able to provide more grants to women and girls in our community. The heartbreaking part of our work, though, is that for every grant we give, we turn down four equally qualified organizations. Join us in helping the neediest girls and women throughout Hawaii`i by sending your donation today. Each of your dollars will be put to work making Hawaii`i a better place for women and giris.
