Mission Statement

The mission of Mothership Hacker Moms is to give mothers and femme-identified caregivers the time, space and community to explore creative endeavors, entrepreneurship, and maker culture. We do this by being a community-operated creative space where creative parents share ideas, tools, and community practicing cooperative principles, open source values and collaborative peer-learning, celebrating experimentation and providing community, programs and workshops for creative moms. We pride ourselves in helping mothers maintain their creative lives at a time when parenting can take center stage and personal creative growth often takes a back seat. We remind mothers of their creative capacity and support their growth and professional and personal goals.

About This Cause

Mothership Hackermoms was founded as a makerspace dedicated to mothers when other makerspaces were not a welcoming place for women and especially women with young children. Many mothers launched businesses and created exhibitions of their work with the support of Mothership Hackermoms. With the number of makerspaces and co-working spaces increasing in recent years, Mothership Hackermoms continues to distinguish itself through mother focused programming and a space welcoming to the creative mother that includes a play space for children and no one batting an eye when you are breastfeeding or pause to change a diaper in the middle of a meeting or event. This non-judgmental and welcoming community has supported women in launching jewelry businesses, re-training for multi-media careers, creating children’s clothing lines, writing academic books, being published in well-known online magazines, producing podcasts and short films, creating children’s books, and much more.
