About This Cause
Base is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable creative space and resources to risktaking artists working in dance, performance and multidisciplinary art. Base operates a rehearsal/performance space in the Georgetown neighborhood of South Seattle; our 2,000 square foot space is designed for immersive, focused creative work, with a sprung floor, 18-foot ceiling, light and sound systems, natural light, kitchenette, bathroom and a seating capacity of 92. As an artist-centered organization, we offer a one-of-a-kind residency program along with below-market rental opportunities for rehearsal and performance. During the 2024-2025 season, the Base Residency program received 109 applications from 14 states—for seven slots. Launched in 2024, our Flourish campaign (flourish.thisisbase.org) will generate $300,000 over three years to support three areas of growth: expanding the resources we provide to artists; building our organizational capacity; and innovating new programs that amplify the positive impact we have on the Seattle community. We welcome a growing community of individuals who shares our belief that abundant creative space is vital infrastructure in any city. While scarcity is something Seattle artists are accustomed to, together we can increase the abundance that Base offers, helping to mitigate the challenges our creative community faces—and helping to reclaim the cultural livability that has long been intrinsic to Seattle's identity.
