Mission Statement
Antara International’s vision is to help "every mother and each child have an equal start to a healthy life”. Our partner organization, The Antara Foundation (TAF), a non-profit registered in India delivers public health innovations that strengthen the rural health system and tackle the massive and neglected health challenge of maternal, child mortality and malnutrition in India’s most marginalized populations.
About This Cause
Antara International is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that tackles maternal and child mortality and malnutrition, through public health innovations at scale. Our funding supports the on-ground activities of our partner organization, The Antara Foundation (TAF) a non-profit registered in India. Maternal and child mortality and malnutrition are one of India’s biggest health problems. At an all-India level, almost a million children under-five, and over 25,000 mothers die every year from pregnancy-related complications. The tragedy is that most of these deaths are preventable. Proven solutions like iron fortification, breastfeeding, antenatal and neonatal care exist – but are not available to every mother and child. A community’s future is built on the health of its mothers and children, and we believe every mother and child has the right to access proven solutions that ensure a healthy start in life. Our partner works with and through governments and communities of frontline health workers to strengthen public health systems at scale. We have a proven track record, our impact is measurable and transparent, and our work is supported by committed donors. ***IMPACT IN NUMBERS*** - 140,000 frontline workers trained - 3x more malnourished children identified - 120,000 deliveries made safer - 1.5x more high-risk pregnant women identified - 2x improvement in labour room readiness *Figures are based on estimates using publicly available sources, and from Antara Foundation’s monitoring system in Rajasthan* The Antara Foundation was founded by Ashok Alexander, who previously led the Gates Foundation in India (and spearheaded their very successful HIV AIDS prevention program "Avahan") and was a McKinsey senior partner before that. Antara International aims to bring the best practices of the social and business sectors to bear, in tackling the crisis of maternal and child mortality and malnutrition.
