When you support United Way, you help families like Kurt’s. KURT'S STORY: Kurt spent 20 years working for collection agencies, sometimes struggling to make ends meet while supporting his only child. Seeking financial security, he aspired to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and become a truck driver. But Kurt could not pay the cost of truck-driving school. Nor could he afford to miss paychecks during four weeks of full-time training. United Way’s Project Lift initiative removes barriers and provides support for families who are committed to building a stronger financial foundation. Program funds paid much of the cost of Kurt’s CDL training and helped cover his basic living expenses while he was in school. After passing the CDL exam, Kurt was hired by a local waste-management company. He now earns almost double his previous income and he’s planning to buy a house. “It was the game-changer,” he says of Project Lift. “It was the difference-maker.” With a gift to United Way, you ensure we can go beyond helping individual families on their path to economic well-being.
