Mission Statement

Founded by James N. Gamble of Procter & Gamble in 1924, City Gospel Mission helps the homeless and hurting break the cycle of poverty and despair … one life at time. We engage, equip and empower those in need with the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical skills and resources to achieve long-term life transformation and self-sufficiency. Our proven programs and services are centered on caring, personal relationships focused in four key service areas: food and shelter, recovery, at-risk youth and job readiness and placement.

About This Cause

Food/Shelter: We annually serve more than 130,000 nutritious meals and provide more than 28,000 nights of safe shelter. During the holidays, we provide more than 3,000 families with a Thanksgiving food basket, and provide a party and gifts for more than 120 senior women at our Christmas Boutique. Recovery: We offer men’s and women’s long-term addiction recovery programs, which include transitional housing and aftercare. And volunteer runners aid those in recovery by training alongside them to comprise our 400-member-strong Flying Pig Marathon team. Jobs: We offer job readiness and placement programs for people who have felonies and limited work histories as well as people who do not. Our traditional 10-week job readiness program helps men and women with life challenges prepare for success on the job. Our Fast Track program helps advanced clients find a job more quickly. We also have a mentoring program at River City Correctional Center. Youth: Our tutoring and mentoring program impacts more than 1,200 at-risk youth at more than 60 sites throughout Greater Cincinnati. We also offer programs involving summer camps, college scholarships, basketball, ballet, cycling, teen outreach, horseback riding, Hispanic outreach and more. And we annually help more than 370 parents afford to buy gifts for 1,300 children at our Christmas Store.
