Mission Statement
Since 1937 Camp Joy has been serving the Greater Cincinnati and SW Ohio community to provide life-changing experiences for underserved populations. Joy continues to provide these experiences to low-income youth, foster youth, and children with medical & special needs. These special populations are being prepared through programming at Joy to be successful in life and make a positive difference in their community. The mission of Camp Joy has not wavered over the last 86 years in providing quality programs for those-in-need. The camp experience has grown to serve those with a variety of challenges including economic, medical, special needs, at risk, and foster children. Joy's mission is "helping people grow and succeed through life-long, experience-based learning." Camp Joy's energetic and professional staff partner with organizations to design customized programs that meet the organization's goals through hands-on learning experiences in a safe and unique outdoor setting.
About This Cause
Camp Joy has three areas of focus, Camps (for medical and low-income youth), Outdoor Education Program for schools and Venture Out! Adult Leadership Programs. - Agency Camp program serves over 1,000 underserved or foster youth each year through 3-day or 6-day camps. The individual needs of children are determined by over 35 local agencies that partner with Camp Joy each year to bring these children to camp and provide them experienced-based outdoor camp programming. - Specialty Camp program serves over 1,500 children annually through 3-day or 6-day camps for youth and their families experiencing grief or facing chronic medical conditions including cancer, heart conditions, hemophilia, sickle cell, severe burns, arthritis, amputated or limb differences, asthma, diabetes, and tuberous sclerosis. Medical and logistical accommodations are made to enable each camper to have the best experience possible. These outdoor activities may be the only time a youth and their family can be surrounded by those who truly understand and share their challenges. These experiences provide a great deal of hope to those that they serve. Camp Joy’s partnerships include Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the hospices in Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio State University Medical Center, American Diabetes Association, and the Amputee Coalition of America. Our specialty camp program - Outdoor Education Program serves area schools, including those located in low-income communities, and transforms the school curriculum for over 6,000 youth in grades three through eight into a hands-on, experienced based, learning experience, reinforcing both academic and social lessons learned in the classroom. The curriculum includes ornithology, comparative ecology, entomology, forestry, wetlands, and the ever-changing earth, most of which involve up-close and/or hands-on experiences with animals and lessons about respect for living creatures. - Venture Out serves business professionals through experience-based outdoor leadership development and team-building activities.
