Mission Statement
The purpose of the Ruth Lyons Children’s Fund is to “help accredited hospitals within the Greater Cincinnati area provide a pleasant atmosphere for their child patients by supplying funding for those extra touches which hospital budgets cannot ordinarily absorb.”
About This Cause
Now in its 80th year, the WLWT Ruth Lyons Children’s Fund was established to ensure each child receives a toy of their very own to keep when they experience an overnight stay in a participating Greater Cincinnati hospital which includes the Dayton Children’s Hospital. In addition, the Ruth Lyons Children’s Fund provides other services including book carts, playrooms, activity centers, TVs, DVD players, computer games and parties for birthdays and holidays throughout the year for hospitalized children. Established on radio in 1939, the Fund is considered to be America’s longest-running broadcast charity. Today, it serves 3 major hospitals and has raised more than 22 million dollars. While it is impossible to precisely calculate how many Tri-State children and families have been helped by the Fund, the number is conservatively estimated to be well in the millions.
