Black Public Media supports the development of visionary content creators and distributes stories about the global Black experience to inspire a more equitable and inclusive future.

About This Cause

Black Public Media (BPM) funds and distributes media content about the African American and global Black experience, and provides training and support for Black, POC, and other content creators working in film and emerging media. BLACK PUBLIC MEDIA PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TALENT DEVELOPMENT BPM provides professional development workshops and training; mentorships; and fellowships to strengthen the pipeline of Black content creators in film and emerging media. Its signature talent development programs include 360 Incubator+, BPM+, and Black Media Story Summit. PROJECT DEVELOPMENT Through various funding programs (i.e. PitchBLACK Forum, BPM+ Fellowship, Annual Open Call) BPM ensures that authentic, well-researched, and impactful stories about the African American and global Black experience are produced. Projects are supported at every stage of production with funding levels ranging from $10K - $150K. DISTRIBUTION In partnership with PBS series such as "Independent Lens", "POV", "American Masters" and "America Reframed", BPM's funded films are distributed throughout the US, reaching 4M households. BPM is also the Executive Producer of two award-winning series "AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange" and "BeHeard!" AUDIENCE OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT BPM partners with cultural and educational institutions to bring its programs directly into communities, fostering dialogue and conversation about historical and contemporary issues impacting Black communities in the US and the world. BPM's ANNUAL IMPACT --20+ artists served; --15 - 25 projects funded; --15+ programs released on public media platforms reaching an estimated 4M viewing households; -- 5 -10 engagement events reaching audiences where they live, work, and commune. SUPPORTING BPM Stories that tell the inherent truth about the black experience, the contributions of African-Americans, and the nuances and richness of people of the African diaspora, are not simply tools for diversity, but essential to understanding the beauty and the complexity of the American experience.
