Mission Statement
Sustainable Seattle works to build a thriving future through initiatives that deliver environmental, economic and community benefits, promote equity, and build resilience. Our vision is a thriving, regenerative, sustainable Seattle which centers reciprocity, liberation, and restored abundance. We define sustainability as the ancient and enduring practice of creating richness in natural resources, attuning to nature’s environmental indicators, and providing equitable access to health, food, shelter, and economic wealth for all people.
About This Cause
In Seattle, there is no shortage of passion, commitment, and ideas around environmental solutions. Sustainable Seattle - S2 - has a 30 year history of working to liberate sustainability work and make it community owned. We are concerned about our region's rapid urban growth, coming climate impacts, and social inequity. We work with individuals, organizations, and businesses to address these concerns by addressing root causes, revitalizing our environment, building community and accelerating the adoption of sustainable practices. We align, amplify, and activate sustainability efforts through demonstration projects, environmental action, education and inspiration. We value equity, alignment, collaboration, and direct action. Key Programs: INTERWEAVE - An accelerator for community-owned sustainability initiatives. Projects include housing development and anti-displacement, community resilience and mental and physical health, food sovereignty, community land ownership, green infrastructure, and education and engagement. EVIDENT - A community research center focused on participatory data collection, analysis, and redistribution on pressing and emergent hyper-local sustainability topics. CONVENINGS - PNW Resilience Summit, the monthly Green Drinks series, and the region's Sustainability Leadership Awards.
